A Spring Shelfie

The sun is shining, the daffodils are blooming, and the evenings are getting longer – Spring must be – well, springing. I love this time of year, full of hope and promise for happy days ahead, and the perfect time to shake things up in your interiors. And so to introducing my Spring Shelfie …

The landing of my flat is a totally dead space, the flatness only punctuated by a radiator and the electricity fuse box – how exciting! So when the homes and interiors people at Wayfair proposed a Spring Shelfie challenge, I knew that this would be the perfect spot for it. After much perusing on Wayfair’s site (there is so much to choose from!), I decided on this white leaning ladder shelf unit as the basis of my shelfie:

This leaning shelf fitted perfectly in the space to the left of the radiator, adding some much needed interest and a perfect base on which to display colourful items heralding the arrival of Spring and looking forward to Easter.

I based my shelfie on the Spring colours of yellow, pink and green, starting with this gorgeous glass vase from Wayfair, whose green glass shows of the sculptural stems of spring blooms such as daffodils, or in this case, pink tulips. Can you spot the rogue parrot one in this otherwise regular bunch?

Decorative Easter Eggs hang from the shelf, and are echoed in the tin Easter Egg storage box on the shelf below, which I’ve paired with a succulent and this gorgeous print of a grey heron, by Bristol artist Tom Frost, which was a recent present from my daughter.

On the bottom two shelves, I concentrated on much needed hallway storage, in the form of decorative boxes and jars. A glass jar from Tiger stores holds the pretty but Spring-essential mini eggs, and sits atop another bird-decorated box (a present from my sister), and a beautiful yellow accessories box, with a high gloss finish and bright yellow retro print, by Wolf, from Wayfair. Just gorgeous.

The lowest shelf hold boxes by Orla Kiely (packaging from some bedding) and a papier mache duck, which is probably my oldest decorative item, having followed me to every home from my East End London housing association house of my twenties, to today’s South Devon flat. It looks heavy, but is as light as a feather, and I think that’s why I love it so much. And even though it’s lovely to have new accessories, it’s also nice to have a reminder of past times and interiors too.

I hope you like my Spring Shelfie, and thanks to Wayfair for gifting me some items to make it possible. A shelf is a great place to easily add some decorative (as well as practical) interest to a home, and I’m looking forward to styling it differently as the seasons change. But I expect the duck will stay.
