Distinctive Chesterfields: Sofas of Distinction
Some time ago I wrote about how my local charity shop was trying to sell a green velvet sofa as a Chesterfield that might have once belonged to Winston Churchill. Whether true or not, it is certainly feasible, as Chesterfields have always been associated with gentlemen of standing and distinction.
I’ve looked into the history of this piece of classic furniture, which is riddled with differing opinions as to how it got its name, and what the characteristics are. Yet we all know a Chesterfield when we see one – a beautifully-crafted piece of furniture with deep buttoned upholstery (either in leather or velvet), back and arms at equal height, rolled arms, and nail head trim. The previous association with gentlemen’s clubs brings with it the connotation of luxury and privilege, but nowadays you don’t have to be Prime Minister or in the cabinet to own a Chesterfield.
This gorgeous red velvet Chesterfield from Distinctive Chesterfields can be yours for under £1000, which according to my research, is less than half what you would pay for one at one of the out-of-town furniture superstores. Isn’t it beautiful? I am dreaming up a whole other life for myself in which this sofa would feature prominently.
Even if you would prefer a more traditional leather-covered Chesterfield, Distinctive Chesterfields offer customisation so you can have your choice of a wide range of leather colours, including a spearmint lime green, or aqua blue. And so you can have the best of both worlds – a the freshness of a contemporary look while keeping the solidity and quality of traditional hand-crafted design classics.
I’m hooked. You can’t beat the classics, and I strongly advocate buying furniture that will stand the test of time – if you can afford it – rather than throw-away pieces that need constant replacing. Buying a sofa from Distinctive Chesterfields means you are also supporting a small British company (founded by a husband and wife team) who are committed to the quality of their products. Winston Churchill would be proud!
A collaborative post, but all words and thoughts are my own and honest.
