The Great British Home Challenge, sponsored by Victoria Plumb, has posed the question ‘What does your home say about you?’ and offers a quiz to help you determine your style, and its closest celebrity match.

I took the quiz and the result says that my celebrity style is TOWIE GLAMOUR *runs false nail over fake-tanned brow in bemusement

(*joke)

There must have been a glitch in the programme – no crushed velvet or designer onesie chez moi (no onesie full stop!). I have never actually seen an episode of TOWIE, but I have a feeling there might be just a little bit of difference between Topsham Towers and Towie Towers.

Topsham Towers is what I call my rented studio flat in – you’ve guessed it – Topsham. It’s a small space, one room for living/eating/sleeping, and a separate (tiny) kitchen and a bathroom. A palatial pad with Range Rover parked outside it most certainly ain’t.

So what is my home style? Well, let’s look at some of my recent blog or photos …

This was a photo I took around the time when I was reviewing the Takker picture hanging device. This is seating corner of my flat, the sofa faces two windows through which light floods in, and there is a teeny glimpse of the Exe Estuary in the distance. Studio flat living means making the most of every space, and maximising storage, as you can see here with my chest of drawers. The rest of that wall (to the left of the drawers) is taken up with my wardrobe.

I think this photo says that I like art, and the fact that I didn’t plump up the cushions or straighten the pictures before I took the pic (doh!) shows I’m a bit messy at times 🙂

On the opposite wall to my drawers and wardrobe are my bookshelves – taking up the whole of that wall (sorry no photo), so this element of my style says fairly clearly that I like books!

My kitchen is very small, so it has to be kept clean and clear of clutter. One of my favourite jobs is making sure the ceramic hob is pristine – sad! So I think my kitchen photos show that I do like order and cleanliness, and having everything in its place, even if it does get out of hand in other areas at times 🙂

Finally, a collage of some recent photographs show some other elements of my style – things I like and which are constants in my home:

1. Fresh Flowers. I love flowers, and living in a flat without a garden I think it’s pretty essential to always have some. I especially like lilies.

2. Pattern. If you follow me on , you might have noticed I have a thing about pattern design and fabric. This is Laura Ashley’s Silver Birch design, on my curtains made by Mona Diaz Ramsay.

3. Home Fragrance. In a studio flat cooking smells can invade your living space. I have my window open as much as possible, but also go through scented candles at a great rate.

4. Nice crockery and table linen. Even though I don’t have a dining table like I used to, I still like to make an effort with dining. This is my new crockery by Cote Table, bought from Nest Interiors, and a vintage tablecloth from Force Charity Shop.

So that’s a small glimpse into my home style. What do you think it says about me? (be nice please!)
