Home Office Finishing Touches
I wrote back in January how I was hoping to make a home office in my spare bedroom. At the time I only had a small desk (kindly donated by my daughter), and though it was a perfectly usable set-up (after I eventually got rid of the large wardrobe in the room), it was not an inviting space. This week, with some time on my hands, I set about making it my own.
First of all I decided I wanted a pegboard above my desk – I’ve seen lots of these on blogs and knew of the company that made them, but decided instead to ask my laser-cutting boyfriend if he could make me one. And he did! He cut it to my exact specifications in poplar, which I then primed and painted in white satin. I bought the pegs on eBay, and painted the tops of those in different colours, and ta-dah!:
I put an Ikea picture ledge under the pegboard, and now both are filled up with items I use everyday, and a few decorative items too, such as the lovely ironing beads butterfly made for me by my niece Anna, and postcards from friends.
Here are a few of the items and their sources:
Left: Vase used as pen pot, Adorn Decor; Top Right: Binder Clips (for hanging things on the pegs): Lagom Design; Bottom Right: Scissors, Adorn Decor.
As my desk itself is small I decided to keep it simple and only have the basics on it – a vase for flowers; a clock; a tray to hold the pens and items I use most; my laptop and notebook.
Left: Vase, Dunelm; Middle: Tray, Cordello Home; Right: Clock, Ikea.
The tray is from Cordello Home’s Iconic Collection, the geometric/diamond pattern is bang on trend, and it makes my desk look a lot tidier. Its intended purpose is a sandwich tray, but as soon as I saw it I thought – aha, that would be perfect for my desk. It would also be good as a tray for plants – herb pots or succulents – but mine is staying firmly put here.
Since dolling up my home office space I am spending so much more time here, and also being more productive – more focused, and with less tabs open on my browser (I’m so guilty of having a million open when I am tippy tappying on the sofa or in bed, oops!).
Here is my home office space in all its glory, do you like?

It looks beautiful, I’ve been looking forward to seeing the end result since you mentioned earlier in the year you were going to have a little revamp. I love that geometric tray too X
Thanks Lins. The room still has to function as a guest room, so I’ve only taken a little bit of space – but it’s working absolutely fine, if I had more space/bigger desk it would probably fill up with junk – this was it’s staying nice and tidy 🙂

What a great space you have created. I love the peg board and with the shelf just underneath with your lovely things on, they really complement each other well. #HomeEtc
Thank you Jo, I’m glad you like it 🙂
I think it’s lovely that you’ve been able to diy and hold on to old furniture. #HomeEtc
Thanks Helena

Ooh, that peg board is gorgeous. And I love the things that you have on display. It’s like practical but pretty.
Thank you! Having published the post I realised I should probably have sought out more pretty than practical items for the photos, but this is how it is, a working area and I like having what I need to hand 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.

Love it!!!! Clever BF! 🙂 He should put a line of them out and give Block a run for their money!! A range of Farrow and Ball painted pegboards, to match people’s home’s would go down a treat, I reckon 🙂 Thanks for linking up 🙂 #HomeEtc — Caro x

Thanks Caro – he is clever alright. He’s so busy atm that the lasering is taking a back seat but you’re right, ones in F&B colours would be lovely.

What a lovely space you have created and practical too. Love the peg board. I’ve been wanting to get one too although not sure where I’d put it or what I’d use it for.
Thanks Stacey! I’ve seen them used for all sorts of things on Pinterest – for jewellery in bedrooms, tools in garages, and in kitchens etc. Some lovely designs (and I am already planning on asking the bf to make me some additions (acrylic shelves that slot in, and a perpetual calendar to peg … hope he’s not reading this!)

I love it!! I recently discovered Cordello Home myself after seeing a post with some of their items on Instagram and I was so excited I immediately ordered myself some notebooks! I have such a problem with stationery! I’m still hiding them away in my desk as I don’t want them to get messy!! How silly is that?! I think your desk looks fabulous and I really love the peg board with the picture shelf, inspired!! Xx #HomeEtc
Thanks Carole! The Cordello Home notebooks (and all their items) are lovely aren’t they? You need to put those notebooks on show 🙂 (But I totally understand, and have a BIG problem with stationery myself!) Thanks for popping by x

This looks fantastic. I DREAM of a home office. I’m usually to be found munching on Wotsits at the living room table when writing my blog posts…I’m *sure* a home office would put a stop to this…;)
Hehe, I’m sure it would Clare! (For me, only because my desk is so tiny there is nowhere to put a bag of Wotsits!)
