Brrr, it sure has turned cold. So time to dig out my hat and gloves. My winter essentials every year are a black beret and leather gloves with fur cuffs – classic chic, you can’t go wrong. However, these two items can be notoriously difficult to source. You will find berets with peaks, berets with sequins on, berets with felt flowers attached, but a plain black beret – no. Why so elusive I do not know. And as for fur-trimmed leather gloves, if you do find them, expect to pay a fortune (My last pair, now missing, were from Reiss – say no more).
But this year I have found both these items for sale, and for bargain prices too, so I must share with you.
The beret I found instore at TKMaxx. The perfect beret, none of that peak-, sequin-, or corsage nonsense, just a plain black beret, 100% pure new wool, for the bargain price of £7.99. (They also have other colours in, red and purple, but why would you want any other colour but black? Berets should be like Henry Ford’s Model T).
The gloves are from JOY, and a joy they are: real leather, and the fluffiest of faux fur trim, and they fit like a – ahem – glove. They have a great name too, Louche Leather Vlada Gloves. And the best bit, they cost only £25 (at least a third of what I paid for my last pair).
I’m absolutely delighted with replenishing both my winter beret and leather glove supply for under £33. Do you have any winter staples you rely on each year?

Aaah I LOVE a beret!!!! Very possibly because I am the world’d biggest Prince fan.
I *do* in fact have a raspberry coloured beret but also a black (and an electric blue) one 😉
Love Joy too — is Louche their own brand? I always seem to get totally sucked in if I go for a little browse in a Joy Store. It holds the same kind of fascination as Oliver Bonas (love their stuff too!) xx

Ah, a beret girl after my own heart (I forgive you the colours!). I’ve never been in a Joy store, only online, but am a sucker for Oliver Bonas too – just had a peek in there when I was in London this week. Luckily for my purse there is neither one of those or a Joy in my home city 😉 Thanks for popping by.
